Install Green API WhatsApp in Cursor
What you need first
- Cursor, installed.
- Nothing else: the server runs on its publisher's machines and Cursor connects to it.
- Your own values for
YOUR_X_INSTANCE_ID,YOUR_X_API_TOKEN.
Steps
- Open
~/.cursor/mcp.json, or create it. For one project only, use.cursor/mcp.jsonin that project. - Add this block. If the file already has
mcpServers, add only the entry inside it.
{
"mcpServers": {
"whatsapp": {
"url": "https://mcp.green-api.com/mcp",
"headers": { "X-Instance-Id": "YOUR_X_INSTANCE_ID", "X-Api-Token": "YOUR_X_API_TOKEN" }
}
}
} - Replace
YOUR_X_INSTANCE_ID,YOUR_X_API_TOKENwith your own values. - Save the file. In Cursor's settings, find the server in the MCP section and turn it on if it is off.
Check it worked
Ask Cursor: List the tools of whatsapp.
If it does not start
- 401 Unauthorized
- The endpoint wants a sign-in or a key. Sign in when Cursor asks, or check the value in place of the placeholder.
- The server starts, but its tools fail
- A
YOUR_…placeholder is still in the config, or its value is wrong. - Nothing changes after a restart
- The file is not valid JSON any more. Look for a missing comma where the block was added.
