Install Green API WhatsApp in Cline

What you need first

  • Cline, installed.
  • Nothing else: the server runs on its publisher's machines and Cline connects to it.
  • Your own values for YOUR_X_INSTANCE_ID,YOUR_X_API_TOKEN.

Steps

  1. In Cline, open the MCP Servers icon, then the Configure tab, and choose Configure MCP Servers. It opens cline_mcp_settings.json.
  2. Add this block. If the file already has mcpServers, add only the entry inside it.
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "whatsapp": {
      "type": "streamableHttp",
      "url": "https://mcp.green-api.com/mcp",
      "headers": { "X-Instance-Id": "YOUR_X_INSTANCE_ID", "X-Api-Token": "YOUR_X_API_TOKEN" }
    }
  }
}
  1. Replace YOUR_X_INSTANCE_ID,YOUR_X_API_TOKEN with your own values.
  2. Save the file. Cline reloads it and lists the server under MCP Servers.

Check it worked

Ask Cline: List the tools of whatsapp.

If it does not start

401 Unauthorized
The endpoint wants a sign-in or a key. Sign in when Cline asks, or check the value in place of the placeholder.
The server starts, but its tools fail
A YOUR_… placeholder is still in the config, or its value is wrong.
Nothing changes after a restart
The file is not valid JSON any more. Look for a missing comma where the block was added.
