Terms of Service

Edition 1.1, in force from 30 October 2026.

1. Who we are

plug.directory is run by the operator of plug.directory ("we", "us"). How to reach us is on the imprint. You can reach us at [email protected], which is also our single point of contact for users and authorities under Articles 11 and 12 of the Digital Services Act. We answer in English. These terms apply when you use the site; by using it you accept them.

2. What plug.directory is

plug.directory is an independent catalogue of servers built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP). It shows what publishers say about their servers in the Official MCP Registry, and the results of our own checks once we run them. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by LF Projects, LLC, the Model Context Protocol project or the Official MCP Registry, and we do not speak for any publisher.

3. Who may use it

Anyone may read the site. Accounts, when we open them, are for people aged 18 or over; we do not knowingly open an account for anyone younger.

4. Accounts

The site has no accounts yet. When it does, you will sign in with GitHub, one person per account, and you are responsible for what is done with your account. We store which edition of these terms you accepted and when.

5. What you send us

Text, logos or other material you send us (for example a description of your own server, or a report) stays yours. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, copy, display and adapt it for running and promoting plug.directory, for as long as it is on the site and for a reasonable time after, for backups and records. You confirm you have the right to grant this.

6. Acceptable use

The Acceptable Use Policy is part of these terms. Breaking it may lead to the steps in section 16.

7. Listings and claims

Which servers we list, how a publisher claims and manages a listing, and how a listing is removed are set out in the Listing Policy, which is part of these terms. When we start checking a server, its publisher accepts that we connect to it to see whether it starts and what it offers, in the limited way the Listing Policy describes; a publisher may opt out.

8. What the information on the site is

Every check result, score, label or other signal we show is a dated observation of what our checks saw at that time, under the method we publish. It is not a warranty, a certification or a statement that a server is safe, and it may be out of date or wrong. A publisher may reply to what we show and ask for a new check; we correct mistakes as the Listing Policy says. What a publisher wrote about their own server is theirs, shown as they wrote it.

9. Servers made by others

The servers listed are made and run by their publishers, not by us. We do not run, control or vouch for them. An install snippet on the site is written from the publisher's own registry entry; read it, and the server's own documentation, before you run it. You install and use a server at your own risk and under its publisher's terms.

10. Badges

When we offer badges, a badge is a dated observation like any other signal in section 8. A publisher may remove ours from their pages at any time, and we may change or withdraw a badge.

11. Advertising

The site shows no advertising today. If it ever does, every paid placement will be labelled as such in visible text. Payment may change placement only; it never changes a check result, score or signal.

12. How we moderate

Anyone may tell us about illegal content, a rights claim, their personal data, a harmful server or a wrong finding through the report form, without an account. A person reviews every report. If a decision ever relies on automated tools, we say so in the decision. When we remove, hide, demote or quarantine something, we tell the affected publisher, and the person who reported it, what we did, why, on what ground, and how to dispute it: by replying to us, which a person reviews, through an out-of-court dispute settlement body certified under Article 21 of the Digital Services Act, or in court. We end the listings or accounts of people who repeatedly infringe the rights of others or repeatedly send clearly unfounded reports, after a warning and with reasons.

Copyright notices under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act may be sent through the report form.

13. What is ours

The site's code, design, our own texts, our check results and the database we compile are ours, including our right as maker of the database under Directive 96/9/EC. Data we take from the Official MCP Registry is published there under CC0 and stays free for anyone to use; our rights do not cover it.

14. Reusing our data

You may link to any page and quote reasonable parts with a link back. You may not copy the site's content in bulk or extract a substantial part of the database by scraping, beyond what our robots.txt allows or an interface we publish for that purpose, without our written permission.

15. Paid services

The site is free and has no paid services. If we offer one, its price, what it buys and any right to withdraw will be shown before you pay, and those terms will apply to it as well as these.

16. Liability

The site is a free information service. We are not liable for loss caused by our ordinary negligence in providing it. For any other liability, our total liability to you is limited to the higher of the fees you paid us in the twelve months before the event and EUR 100.

None of this limits liability for intent or gross negligence, for death or personal injury, or any liability that the law does not allow to be limited, and none of it takes away a right you have as a consumer under the mandatory law of the country where you live.

17. Suspension and ending

We may restrict, suspend or end your use of the site, a listing or an account for a breach of these terms, of the Acceptable Use Policy or of the law. We do so in proportion to the breach and give our reasons, as section 12 describes, unless the law forbids it. You may stop using the site at any time.

18. Changes

We may change these terms. Each version carries an edition number and a date. A change that affects holders of a claimed listing reaches them by e-mail at least 15 days before it applies to them. Using the site after a change takes effect means you accept it.

19. Law and courts

These terms are governed by the law of Iceland. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live (Article 6(2) of Regulation (EC) No 593/2008), and you may bring a claim in the courts of that country as well as in Iceland. Otherwise the courts of Iceland decide disputes about these terms.
