Install ConnectWise Automate in Codex

What you need first

  • Codex, installed.
  • Docker, which gives the docker command the server starts with.
  • Your own values for YOUR_CW_AUTOMATE_SERVER_URL,YOUR_CW_AUTOMATE_CLIENT_ID,YOUR_CW_AUTOMATE_USERNAME,YOUR_CW_AUTOMATE_PASSWORD.

Steps

  1. Run this in a terminal. It writes the server into ~/.codex/config.toml, which the Codex CLI, its IDE extension and the ChatGPT desktop app share.
codex mcp add connectwise-automate-mcp --env CW_AUTOMATE_SERVER_URL=YOUR_CW_AUTOMATE_SERVER_URL --env CW_AUTOMATE_CLIENT_ID=YOUR_CW_AUTOMATE_CLIENT_ID --env CW_AUTOMATE_USERNAME=YOUR_CW_AUTOMATE_USERNAME --env CW_AUTOMATE_PASSWORD=YOUR_CW_AUTOMATE_PASSWORD -- docker run -i --rm -e CW_AUTOMATE_SERVER_URL -e CW_AUTOMATE_CLIENT_ID -e CW_AUTOMATE_USERNAME -e CW_AUTOMATE_PASSWORD ghcr.io/wyre-technology/connectwise-automate-mcp:v1.8.2
  1. Replace YOUR_CW_AUTOMATE_SERVER_URL,YOUR_CW_AUTOMATE_CLIENT_ID,YOUR_CW_AUTOMATE_USERNAME,YOUR_CW_AUTOMATE_PASSWORD with your own values.
  2. Start Codex again and type /mcp: the server is listed.

Check it worked

Ask Codex: List the tools of connectwise-automate-mcp.

If it does not start

Cannot connect to the Docker daemon
Docker is not running. Start it, then restart Codex.
The server starts, but its tools fail
A YOUR_… placeholder is still in the config, or its value is wrong.
