Install Asuswrt in Codex
What you need first
- Codex, installed.
- uv, which
gives the
uvxcommand the server starts with. - Your own values for
YOUR_ASUSWRT_HOST,YOUR_ASUSWRT_SSH_USERNAME,YOUR_ASUSWRT_SSH_PASSWORD.
Steps
- Run this in a terminal. It writes the server into
~/.codex/config.toml, which the Codex CLI, its IDE extension and the ChatGPT desktop app share.
codex mcp add asuswrt-mcp --env ASUSWRT_HOST=YOUR_ASUSWRT_HOST --env ASUSWRT_SSH_USERNAME=YOUR_ASUSWRT_SSH_USERNAME --env ASUSWRT_SSH_PASSWORD=YOUR_ASUSWRT_SSH_PASSWORD -- uvx asuswrt-mcp==0.1.1 - Replace
YOUR_ASUSWRT_HOST,YOUR_ASUSWRT_SSH_USERNAME,YOUR_ASUSWRT_SSH_PASSWORDwith your own values. - Start Codex again and type
/mcp: the server is listed.

uvxin the config. - The server starts, but its tools fail
- A
