Install SharePoint MCP Server in Cursor

What you need first

  • Cursor, installed.
  • uv, which gives the uvx command the server starts with.
  • Your own values for YOUR_SHP_ID_APP,YOUR_SHP_ID_APP_SECRET,YOUR_SHP_TENANT_ID,YOUR_SHP_SITE_URL.

Steps

  1. Open ~/.cursor/mcp.json, or create it. For one project only, use .cursor/mcp.json in that project.
  2. Add this block. If the file already has mcpServers, add only the entry inside it.
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "sharepoint-mcp": {
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": ["sharepoint-mcp==1.1.1"],
      "env": { "SHP_ID_APP": "YOUR_SHP_ID_APP", "SHP_ID_APP_SECRET": "YOUR_SHP_ID_APP_SECRET", "SHP_TENANT_ID": "YOUR_SHP_TENANT_ID", "SHP_SITE_URL": "YOUR_SHP_SITE_URL" }
    }
  }
}
  1. Replace YOUR_SHP_ID_APP,YOUR_SHP_ID_APP_SECRET,YOUR_SHP_TENANT_ID,YOUR_SHP_SITE_URL with your own values.
  2. Save the file. In Cursor's settings, find the server in the MCP section and turn it on if it is off.

Check it worked

Ask Cursor: List the tools of sharepoint-mcp.

If it does not start

spawn uvx ENOENT
uv is not on the PATH that Cursor sees. Install it, or write the full path of uvx in the config.
The server starts, but its tools fail
A YOUR_… placeholder is still in the config, or its value is wrong.
Nothing changes after a restart
The file is not valid JSON any more. Look for a missing comma where the block was added.
