Install Neo4j Memory in BoltAI

What you need first

  • BoltAI, installed.
  • uv, which gives the uvx command the server starts with.
  • Your own values for YOUR_NEO4J_URI,YOUR_NEO4J_USERNAME,YOUR_NEO4J_PASSWORD.

Steps

  1. Open ~/.codex/config.toml, or create it. The Codex CLI, its IDE extension and the ChatGPT desktop app share this file.
  2. Add this table at the end of the file.
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "mcp-neo4j-memory": {
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": ["mcp-neo4j-memory==0.4.2"],
      "env": { "NEO4J_URI": "YOUR_NEO4J_URI", "NEO4J_USERNAME": "YOUR_NEO4J_USERNAME", "NEO4J_PASSWORD": "YOUR_NEO4J_PASSWORD" }
    }
  }
}
  1. Replace YOUR_NEO4J_URI,YOUR_NEO4J_USERNAME,YOUR_NEO4J_PASSWORD with your own values.
  2. Save the file and restart BoltAI.

Check it worked

Ask BoltAI: List the tools of mcp-neo4j-memory.

If it does not start

spawn uvx ENOENT
uv is not on the PATH that BoltAI sees. Install it, or write the full path of uvx in the config.
The server starts, but its tools fail
A YOUR_… placeholder is still in the config, or its value is wrong.
Nothing changes after a restart
The file is not valid JSON any more. Look for a missing comma where the block was added.
