Install IRL Gateway in Codex
What you need first
- Codex, installed.
- uv, which
gives the
uvxcommand the server starts with. - Your own values for
YOUR_IRL_BASE_URL,YOUR_IRL_API_TOKEN,YOUR_IRL_AGENT_ID,YOUR_IRL_MODEL_HASH.
Steps
- Run this in a terminal. It writes the server into
~/.codex/config.toml, which the Codex CLI, its IDE extension and the ChatGPT desktop app share.
codex mcp add irl-gateway --env IRL_BASE_URL=YOUR_IRL_BASE_URL --env IRL_API_TOKEN=YOUR_IRL_API_TOKEN --env IRL_AGENT_ID=YOUR_IRL_AGENT_ID --env IRL_MODEL_HASH=YOUR_IRL_MODEL_HASH -- uvx irl-gateway==0.2.0 - Replace
YOUR_IRL_BASE_URL,YOUR_IRL_API_TOKEN,YOUR_IRL_AGENT_ID,YOUR_IRL_MODEL_HASHwith your own values. - Start Codex again and type
/mcp: the server is listed.
Check it worked
Ask Codex: List the tools of irl-gateway.
If it does not start
- spawn uvx ENOENT
- uv is not on the PATH that Codex sees. Install it, or write the
full path of
uvxin the config. - The server starts, but its tools fail
- A
YOUR_…placeholder is still in the config, or its value is wrong.
