Install Kontent in Bob Shell

What you need first

  • Bob Shell, installed.
  • Node.js, which gives the npx command the server starts with.
  • Your own values for YOUR_KONTENT_API_KEY,YOUR_KONTENT_ENVIRONMENT_ID.

Steps

  1. Open ~/.codex/config.toml, or create it. The Codex CLI, its IDE extension and the ChatGPT desktop app share this file.
  2. Add this table at the end of the file.
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "mcp-server": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@kontent-ai/[email protected]", "stdio"],
      "env": { "KONTENT_API_KEY": "YOUR_KONTENT_API_KEY", "KONTENT_ENVIRONMENT_ID": "YOUR_KONTENT_ENVIRONMENT_ID" }
    }
  }
}
  1. Replace YOUR_KONTENT_API_KEY,YOUR_KONTENT_ENVIRONMENT_ID with your own values.
  2. Save the file and restart Bob Shell.

Check it worked

Ask Bob Shell: List the tools of mcp-server.

If it does not start

spawn npx ENOENT
Node.js is not on the PATH that Bob Shell sees. Install it, or write the full path of npx in the config.
The server starts, but its tools fail
A YOUR_… placeholder is still in the config, or its value is wrong.
Nothing changes after a restart
The file is not valid JSON any more. Look for a missing comma where the block was added.
