Install Hummingbot in mcp-client-cli

What you need first

  • mcp-client-cli, installed.
  • Docker, which gives the docker command the server starts with.
  • Your own values for YOUR_HUMMINGBOT_API_URL,YOUR_HUMMINGBOT_USERNAME,YOUR_HUMMINGBOT_PASSWORD.

Steps

  1. Open ~/.codex/config.toml, or create it. The Codex CLI, its IDE extension and the ChatGPT desktop app share this file.
  2. Add this table at the end of the file.
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "mcp": {
      "command": "docker",
      "args": ["run", "-i", "--rm", "-e", "HUMMINGBOT_API_URL", "-e", "HUMMINGBOT_USERNAME", "-e", "HUMMINGBOT_PASSWORD", "docker.io/hummingbot/hummingbot-mcp:0.1.0"],
      "env": { "HUMMINGBOT_API_URL": "YOUR_HUMMINGBOT_API_URL", "HUMMINGBOT_USERNAME": "YOUR_HUMMINGBOT_USERNAME", "HUMMINGBOT_PASSWORD": "YOUR_HUMMINGBOT_PASSWORD" }
    }
  }
}
  1. Replace YOUR_HUMMINGBOT_API_URL,YOUR_HUMMINGBOT_USERNAME,YOUR_HUMMINGBOT_PASSWORD with your own values.
  2. Save the file and restart mcp-client-cli.

Check it worked

Ask mcp-client-cli: List the tools of mcp.

If it does not start

Cannot connect to the Docker daemon
Docker is not running. Start it, then restart mcp-client-cli.
The server starts, but its tools fail
A YOUR_… placeholder is still in the config, or its value is wrong.
Nothing changes after a restart
The file is not valid JSON any more. Look for a missing comma where the block was added.
