Install Proton Safe MCP in Cline
What you need first
- Cline, installed.
- uv, which
gives the
uvxcommand the server starts with. - Your own value for
YOUR_PROTON_BRIDGE_USER.
Steps
- In Cline, open the MCP Servers icon, then the Configure tab, and choose Configure MCP Servers.
It opens
cline_mcp_settings.json. - Add this block. If the file already has
mcpServers, add only the entry inside it.
{
"mcpServers": {
"proton-safe-mcp": {
"command": "uvx",
"args": ["proton-safe-mcp==2.3.1", "serve"],
"env": { "PROTON_BRIDGE_USER": "YOUR_PROTON_BRIDGE_USER" }
}
}
} - Replace
YOUR_PROTON_BRIDGE_USERwith your own value. - Save the file. Cline reloads it and lists the server under MCP Servers.
Check it worked
Ask Cline: List the tools of proton-safe-mcp.
If it does not start
- spawn uvx ENOENT
- uv is not on the PATH that Cline sees. Install it, or write the
full path of
uvxin the config. - The server starts, but its tools fail
- A
YOUR_…placeholder is still in the config, or its value is wrong. - Nothing changes after a restart
- The file is not valid JSON any more. Look for a missing comma where the block was added.
