What you need first
- Codex, installed.
- uv, which
gives the
uvxcommand the server starts with. - Your own values for
YOUR_ARCGIS_URL,YOUR_ARCGIS_USERNAME,YOUR_ARCGIS_PASSWORD.
Steps
- Run this in a terminal. It writes the server into
~/.codex/config.toml, which the Codex CLI, its IDE extension and the ChatGPT desktop app share.
codex mcp add arcgis-mcp-server --env ARCGIS_URL=YOUR_ARCGIS_URL --env ARCGIS_USERNAME=YOUR_ARCGIS_USERNAME --env ARCGIS_PASSWORD=YOUR_ARCGIS_PASSWORD -- uvx arcgis-mcp-server==1.1.5 - Replace
YOUR_ARCGIS_URL,YOUR_ARCGIS_USERNAME,YOUR_ARCGIS_PASSWORDwith your own values. - Start Codex again and type
/mcp: the server is listed.

If it does not start
- spawn uvx ENOENT
- uv is not on the PATH that Codex sees. Install it, or write the
full path of
uvxin the config. - The server starts, but its tools fail
- A
