Install Whatsapp Cloud in mcp-client-cli
What you need first
- mcp-client-cli, installed.
- Node.js, which
gives the
npxcommand the server starts with. - Your own values for
YOUR_WHATSAPP_ACCESS_TOKEN,YOUR_WHATSAPP_PHONE_NUMBER_ID,YOUR_WHATSAPP_BUSINESS_ACCOUNT_ID.
Steps
- Open
~/.codex/config.toml, or create it. The Codex CLI, its IDE extension and the ChatGPT desktop app share this file. - Add this table at the end of the file.
{
"mcpServers": {
"mcp-whatsapp-cloud": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "@codespar/[email protected]"],
"env": { "WHATSAPP_ACCESS_TOKEN": "YOUR_WHATSAPP_ACCESS_TOKEN", "WHATSAPP_PHONE_NUMBER_ID": "YOUR_WHATSAPP_PHONE_NUMBER_ID", "WHATSAPP_BUSINESS_ACCOUNT_ID": "YOUR_WHATSAPP_BUSINESS_ACCOUNT_ID" }
}
}
} - Replace
YOUR_WHATSAPP_ACCESS_TOKEN,YOUR_WHATSAPP_PHONE_NUMBER_ID,YOUR_WHATSAPP_BUSINESS_ACCOUNT_IDwith your own values. - Save the file and restart mcp-client-cli.
Check it worked
Ask mcp-client-cli: List the tools of mcp-whatsapp-cloud.
If it does not start
- spawn npx ENOENT
- Node.js is not on the PATH that mcp-client-cli sees. Install it, or write the
full path of
npxin the config. - The server starts, but its tools fail
- A
YOUR_…placeholder is still in the config, or its value is wrong. - Nothing changes after a restart
- The file is not valid JSON any more. Look for a missing comma where the block was added.
