Install codeDB Lens in LM Studio
What you need first
- LM Studio, installed.
- Docker, which
gives the
dockercommand the server starts with. - Your own values for
YOUR_ENGINE,YOUR_SERVER.
Steps
- In LM Studio, open the Program tab and choose Install › Edit mcp.json.
- Add this block. If the file already has
mcpServers, add only the entry inside it.
{
"mcpServers": {
"codedb-lens": {
"command": "docker",
"args": ["run", "-i", "--rm", "ghcr.io/codedb-io/codedb-lens:0.9.1", "mcp", "--engine", "YOUR_ENGINE", "--server", "YOUR_SERVER"]
}
}
} - Replace
YOUR_ENGINE,YOUR_SERVERwith your own values. - Save the file and restart LM Studio.
Check it worked
Ask LM Studio: List the tools of codedb-lens.
If it does not start
- Cannot connect to the Docker daemon
- Docker is not running. Start it, then restart LM Studio.
- The server starts, but its tools fail
- A
YOUR_…placeholder is still in the config, or its value is wrong. - Nothing changes after a restart
- The file is not valid JSON any more. Look for a missing comma where the block was added.
