Install Ramen: self-hosted MCP for teams in Cursor

What you need first

  • Cursor, installed.
  • Nothing else: the server runs on its publisher's machines and Cursor connects to it.
  • Your own values for YOUR_RAMEN_GROUP,YOUR_RAMEN_ZONE.

Steps

  1. Open ~/.cursor/mcp.json, or create it. For one project only, use .cursor/mcp.json in that project.
  2. Add this block. If the file already has mcpServers, add only the entry inside it.
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "ramen": {
      "url": "https://{ramen_edge}/mcp",
      "headers": { "ramen-group": "YOUR_RAMEN_GROUP", "ramen-zone": "YOUR_RAMEN_ZONE" }
    }
  }
}
  1. Replace YOUR_RAMEN_GROUP,YOUR_RAMEN_ZONE with your own values.
  2. Save the file. In Cursor's settings, find the server in the MCP section and turn it on if it is off.

Check it worked

Ask Cursor: List the tools of ramen.

If it does not start

401 Unauthorized
The endpoint wants a sign-in or a key. Sign in when Cursor asks, or check the value in place of the placeholder.
The server starts, but its tools fail
A YOUR_… placeholder is still in the config, or its value is wrong.
Nothing changes after a restart
The file is not valid JSON any more. Look for a missing comma where the block was added.
