Install Victoriatraces in Kiro CLI

What you need first

  • Kiro CLI, installed.
  • Docker, which gives the docker command the server starts with.
  • Your own values for YOUR_VT_INSTANCE_ENTRYPOINT,YOUR_VT_INSTANCE_BEARER_TOKEN.

Steps

  1. Open ~/.codex/config.toml, or create it. The Codex CLI, its IDE extension and the ChatGPT desktop app share this file.
  2. Add this table at the end of the file.
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "mcp-victoriatraces": {
      "command": "docker",
      "args": ["run", "-i", "--rm", "-e", "VT_INSTANCE_ENTRYPOINT", "-e", "VT_INSTANCE_BEARER_TOKEN", "ghcr.io/victoriametrics-community/mcp-victoriatraces:1.5.0"],
      "env": { "VT_INSTANCE_ENTRYPOINT": "YOUR_VT_INSTANCE_ENTRYPOINT", "VT_INSTANCE_BEARER_TOKEN": "YOUR_VT_INSTANCE_BEARER_TOKEN" }
    }
  }
}
  1. Replace YOUR_VT_INSTANCE_ENTRYPOINT,YOUR_VT_INSTANCE_BEARER_TOKEN with your own values.
  2. Save the file and restart Kiro CLI.

Check it worked

Ask Kiro CLI: List the tools of mcp-victoriatraces.

If it does not start

Cannot connect to the Docker daemon
Docker is not running. Start it, then restart Kiro CLI.
The server starts, but its tools fail
A YOUR_… placeholder is still in the config, or its value is wrong.
Nothing changes after a restart
The file is not valid JSON any more. Look for a missing comma where the block was added.
