Install ProxmoxMCP-Plus in mcp-client-cli

What you need first

  • mcp-client-cli, installed.
  • uv, which gives the uvx command the server starts with.
  • Your own values for YOUR_PROXMOX_HOST,YOUR_PROXMOX_USER,YOUR_PROXMOX_TOKEN_NAME,YOUR_PROXMOX_TOKEN_VALUE.

Steps

  1. Open ~/.codex/config.toml, or create it. The Codex CLI, its IDE extension and the ChatGPT desktop app share this file.
  2. Add this table at the end of the file.
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "proxmox-mcp-plus": {
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": ["proxmox-mcp-plus==0.6.6"],
      "env": { "PROXMOX_HOST": "YOUR_PROXMOX_HOST", "PROXMOX_USER": "YOUR_PROXMOX_USER", "PROXMOX_TOKEN_NAME": "YOUR_PROXMOX_TOKEN_NAME", "PROXMOX_TOKEN_VALUE": "YOUR_PROXMOX_TOKEN_VALUE" }
    }
  }
}
  1. Replace YOUR_PROXMOX_HOST,YOUR_PROXMOX_USER,YOUR_PROXMOX_TOKEN_NAME,YOUR_PROXMOX_TOKEN_VALUE with your own values.
  2. Save the file and restart mcp-client-cli.

Check it worked

Ask mcp-client-cli: List the tools of proxmox-mcp-plus.

If it does not start

spawn uvx ENOENT
uv is not on the PATH that mcp-client-cli sees. Install it, or write the full path of uvx in the config.
The server starts, but its tools fail
A YOUR_… placeholder is still in the config, or its value is wrong.
Nothing changes after a restart
The file is not valid JSON any more. Look for a missing comma where the block was added.
