Install S2 Netbox in Kiro CLI

What you need first

  • Kiro CLI, installed.
  • Node.js, which gives the npx command the server starts with.
  • Your own values for YOUR_NETBOX_BASE_URL,YOUR_NETBOX_USERNAME,YOUR_NETBOX_PASSWORD.

Steps

  1. Open ~/.codex/config.toml, or create it. The Codex CLI, its IDE extension and the ChatGPT desktop app share this file.
  2. Add this table at the end of the file.
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "s2-netbox-mcp": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "[email protected]"],
      "env": { "NETBOX_BASE_URL": "YOUR_NETBOX_BASE_URL", "NETBOX_USERNAME": "YOUR_NETBOX_USERNAME", "NETBOX_PASSWORD": "YOUR_NETBOX_PASSWORD" }
    }
  }
}
  1. Replace YOUR_NETBOX_BASE_URL,YOUR_NETBOX_USERNAME,YOUR_NETBOX_PASSWORD with your own values.
  2. Save the file and restart Kiro CLI.

Check it worked

Ask Kiro CLI: List the tools of s2-netbox-mcp.

If it does not start

spawn npx ENOENT
Node.js is not on the PATH that Kiro CLI sees. Install it, or write the full path of npx in the config.
The server starts, but its tools fail
A YOUR_… placeholder is still in the config, or its value is wrong.
Nothing changes after a restart
The file is not valid JSON any more. Look for a missing comma where the block was added.
