Cline, an open-source coding agent for developers, runs as an editor extension (VS Code, JetBrains and others), a terminal program and a desktop app. It connects to local MCP servers over stdio and to hosted ones over Streamable HTTP or legacy SSE. Servers are added in the MCP Servers panel of the extension, through a JSON settings file, or by running cline mcp add in a terminal.

  1. Find the server you want on plug.directory and open its page.
  2. In its install block, pick Cline. The block shows the config and where it goes.
  3. Put the config in cline_mcp_settings.json (MCP Servers › Configure › Configure MCP Servers). Then check the server's tools in Cline, as its docs describe.
